sementales salvajes
Psychedelic Stoner Metal from Durango, Mexico
A power-trio hailing from Durango, Mexico, Sementales Salvajes create instrumental, psychedelic, atmospheric doom metal dipped in desert rock. Produced in the midst of the pandemic, "Umbral III" is a rare combination of heavy riffs, acid-laced solos, and dynamic arrangements that will appeal to fans of all metal subgenres.
Sementales Salvajes Interview:
Well, when we were young we really liked the 1992 movie Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, that couple had a band called “Wyld Stallyns” (Sementales Salvajes), you could see they had a lot of fun. It was the first impression we wanted to have of the band, to have fun and play music, we didn't think much about the name and decided to take it from this great movie.
We met in the first semester of the University of Architecture, we agreed that we really liked punk rock and we decided to form the band to play something Turbonegrro style, initially Sementales Salvajes began playing songs by The Misfits, NOFX, Turbonegro and things like that, the time has come to make our own music and we merge the punk style with the old and heavier rock style of Guitarist Raúl Flores at that time.
I think that from the demo in 2008 to the most recent album in 2022 in all our deliveries we have a different sound, characterized by the power of the riffs playing with the rhythmic base of the drums and the bass making it something more hypnotic. We tried to achieve that depth, toughness and musical journey from a live event to what was recorded on the albums. Mix the strong and forceful with more introspective melodies and passages. We navigate between dirty punk rhythms, slow and dark moments, long psychedelic jams to some slow and hard blues trips.
Initially, in the demo and first recordings, we based some lyrics on Batman comics, which was the journey of our bassist Peyro, in vol. 0 of 2014 all the lyrics are based on cult horror and horror movies from the 70s - 80s with a very classic stoner doom sound, then we jump to Greend 2019 where it is a kind of tribute to marijuana and dark and nefarious feelings of our being, something much more doom heavier and muddier. Already for Umbral 2022 following the instrumental line of the compositions, but in a more relaxed and calm tone, more mature I think, I feel that it is some kind of purification of the band, a more introspective expression of the 3 members of Sementales Salvajes.
Personal feedback as art in general, I think we use music and music uses us, we try to stay in the constant evolution of the composition, we are inspired by the love of music and the commitment we have with it and with the band, Sementales Salvajes as such inspires us to continue creating, sharing and recognizing ourselves as individuals.
A more introspective and intimate album, Umbral lll is a sound experiment that we had been using with some riffs prior to the album, we were not looking to sound in any specific way, simply the ideas we brought matured until they became what are now the songs on the album, I think we weren't so invested in creating a sound.
